Burlington was first settled back in 1641 and officially incorporated as a town back in 1799. Its name is said to come from the only English town Bridlington, Yorkshire. Several of the towns first homesteads still stand today like the Francis Wyman House which was built back in 1666. Burlington is now known as an industrial town but once was known almost entirely for its agriculture. Unfortunately, the early railroad extension cut Burlington off from the main root of passage and severely stunted the town’s growth. That was until Route 128 was built and Burlington became one of the most popular places to live amassing the highest population growth out of any town in the state between 1955 and 1965.
